Canadian Pardons - FAQ's
Can an individual do the Pardon application themselves?
Yes, but this option is NOT advisable. It is possible for an individual to successfully complete a pardon application on their own but it can NOT be done for free. A refused pardon application can waste over two years of time and all of the money that was put into it.
How Long Before I Receive My Pardon?
Canadian Pardon Services may take up to 6 – 9 months to obtain the proper documentation to apply for your pardon. Waiting periods may be affected depending on the work load of the Courts, RCMP and local police authorities.
After the proper documentation is gathered, your application is then sent off to the National Parole Board where “it may take 12 - 18 months to obtain your pardon depending on the type of offence and the documentation that is required. The processing time will vary in each case. Some have taken longer than 18 months to process.” – National Parole Board
